The contract, with an estimated value of EUR 5.72 million, was awarded on 15 January 2026 and officially published on 16 January 2026. The project forms part of Germany’s ongoing investment in flood defense and climate-resilient infrastructure.
The public works contract covers construction activities between dyke kilometer 30+550 and 34+250 on the right bank of the River Elbe in Saxony-Anhalt. Classified as a government works contract, the project focuses on dyke reinforcement and hydraulic engineering.
Lot 1 includes extensive earthworks and material installation, including excavation and reuse of existing dyke materials, installation of sealing and permeable materials, asphalt demolition and resurfacing, as well as gravel base and frost protection layers.
Details of other bidders were not disclosed in the contract award notice, in line with standard German public procurement practices.
The award reflects Germany’s continued commitment to strengthening flood protection systems, particularly along the Elbe River, which has historically been prone to flooding. The project is expected to enhance regional safety, protect agricultural land, and secure transport infrastructure while supporting local construction employment.
Meyer Tiefbau GmbH & Co. KG is a German civil engineering and infrastructure specialist with experience in earthworks, hydraulic engineering, and large-scale public sector construction projects. The company has participated in numerous government contracts across Germany.
The project scope includes excavation of more than 70,000 cubic meters of soil, installation of 18,650 cubic meters of sealing material, 40,800 cubic meters of permeable support material, and over 18,000 square meters of asphalt works, underlining the technical complexity and scale of the contract.
Construction activities under Lot 1 are expected to commence following contractual mobilization. The award highlights the strategic importance of flood protection government contracts in Germany and may lead to further procurement opportunities as additional project phases are implemented.
“This project represents a critical step in strengthening flood defenses along one of Germany’s most important river systems,” a neutral industry observer noted.
