  • The base initiates a research project for the development of AI-based models to simulate diffusion and advection-controlled currents (TDA) in porous media. The aim of the project is to migrate radionuclides (marginal) in potential host stones - clay stone, rock salt andCrystalline rocks - to simulate long geological periods using AI.

    The project uses AI and conventional numerical methods to solve transport problems and improve the modeling results. AI methods such as machine learning enable more efficient and more precisePredict. The aim is to reduce uncertainties in the modeling and to create well -founded forecast models for the long -term safety of geological repository. The project results are also relevant for the fulfillment of the requirements and criteria of the Local Election Act (Standag).In addition to the numerical aspects, the social implications of the use of AI are also examined. In particular, the transparency and traceability of the AI ​​results are in the foreground in order to be the trust of the public and stakeholders in the methods of location selectionto strengthen.

    The results of the research project will support the base in evaluating the scientific results of the Federal Society for Final storage (BGE MBH) and further developing their own methodological approaches. The project thus supports the regulatory tasksof the base and improves the scientific basis for future security analyzes of geological depth bearings.
