Description:
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region is of global importance for the conservation of highly biodiverse forests. The ASEAN Member States (AMS) are home to four biodiversity hotspots containing 20% of all known plant and Tiexpect. ASEAN is also one of the fastest-growing regions in the world with high demand for forest products. A large proportion of the wood traded is of unclear origin and probably also includes illegally logged wood. At the same time, the ASEAN region is an international transitionstorage area for illegal wildlife products from the AMS and Africa. The trade in illegal forest products contributes to forest degradation and destruction and endangers the existence of protected species.
ASEAN has recognized the urgency of improved control and is striving in the "ASEAN Vi"Sion 2040" aims to meet sustainability standards (environmental, social and governance, ESG) in order to improve access to the international market and financial investments. For the forest sector, the ASEAN Working Group on Forest Management has developed a work plan on law enforcement and policyics design in the forestry sector 2016-2025 (Forest Law Enforcement and Governance, FLEG) and the working group on the Washington Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, CITES) and law enforcement in wildlife trade sets its own...
