The project "A 44 Ratingen - Velbert in the section A 3 - L 156" includes the new construction of a section of the A 44. The plan has been approved and for the construction task The section of the A 44 in question begins west of the Ratingen-Ost motorway triangle (A 3 / A 44) at construction km 13+130,000 (south side) or 13+640,000 (north side) and ends in the area of the Heiligenhaus junction (A 44 / B 227) at around construction km 19+500. The new building section combines this Western section of the A 44 including the Duesseldorf airport and trade fair connection with the existing section of the A 44 in the east, the so-called Velbert northern bypass. Closing the gap in the A 44 will create a continuous east-west connection for regional traffic between Essen and Moenchengladbach. The Ratingen-Ost motorway triangle (AD) in the section will be converted into a motorway junction (AK).
