Description: The Eberbach Monastery Foundation intends to expand the hotel in the north-west of the monastery complex by around 70 rooms, including a restaurant and conference area, on the area of the Eberbach monastery complex in the Rheingau. The decisive factor here is that the size of the existing hotel with 28 rooms does not meet the demand from day guests or from event guests. Since the monastery as a former Cistercian abbey with its Romanesque and early Gothic buildings is one of the most important monuments in Europe, the preservation of the “genius loci” when creating a new hotel complex in the synergy of old and new buildings is of particular importance. The Eberbach Monastery Foundation intends to launch an open two-phase implementation competition to ensure that the planning is functionally, creatively and economically high in line with the special features of the location and how it is conveyed.
