- B 1, VKE D181, replacement Josef-Kardinal-Frings Bridge - geotechnical report B 1, VKE D181, replacement Josef-Kardinal-Frings Bridge - geotechnical report General The Josef Cardinal Frings Bridge (JKFB) connects the two as federal highway 1 Cities Neuss and Düsseldorf across the Rhine. To the west, the B 1 connects to the A 57 and serves as a feeder for regional traffic to the center of Düsseldorf and the Neuss harbor. There is also a double track via the JKFB Public transport tram route between Düsseldorf and Neuss. The road construction load was transferred from the cities of Neuss and Düsseldorf on behalf of the federal government to the road construction administration of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia on January 1, 2024 (Straßen.NRW). Due to the poor condition of the bridge, renovation work has been underway by Straßen.NRW since 2024 in order to maintain its roadworthiness until a new replacement is planned. DEGES was started in 2024 with the planning and Construction of a new replacement building was commissioned. A feasibility study was carried out in 2025/2026 with the aim of determining under which conditions the replacement building can be realized and which basic variants could be considered.
