Description:
The civil engineers collective building has been used by the faculty as a central institute building since 1966. For structural reasons, the faculty building will be shut down soon and replacement rooms will have to be created for the chairs. A replacement is planned for the VIA chair with ELVAto build a building. The chair belongs to the faculty of civil engineers and is currently housed in the collective building of civil engineers on Mies-van-der-Rohe-Strasse. The chair VIA (transport science institute at RWTH Aachen) consists of the chair for railway engineering and transport economicst (VIA-R) and the Chair of Airports and Aviation (VIA-A). As a special feature, the
Institute operates a railway technology training and testing facility (ELVA). This experimental facility serves to convey the dependencies of safety technology on railway operations in a realistic manner. Practicer existing original signal boxes, which are also used at DB Netz AG using this technology, real railway operations are recreated. There is also additional office space for institutes from the civil engineering faculty as interim accommodation in a temporary, 1-story containerlocation.
The installation area of the container facility will be converted into a parking space as an interim parking area after the end of its temporary use.
