Description:
The Braunschweig wastewater association intends to upgrade the Steinhof sewage treatment plant as part of the "Sewage Treatment Plant 2030" project. The central sewage treatment plant of the Braunschweig Wastewater Association (AVB) in Steinhof cleans wastewater from around 280,000 residents and numerous businesses every dayoperated by the city of Braunschweig and is therefore one of the largest sewage treatment plants in Northern Germany. The amount of wastewater treated in the Braunschweig sewage treatment plant corresponds to a daily burden of up to 350,000 population equivalents (PE), but is only designed for 275,000 PE and is therefore validt as overloaded. It was nevertheless possible to determine that the previously applicable requirements were generally met and that the sewage treatment plant worked well and reliably. With the Braunschweig model for water reuse (rainfall of treated wastewater on agricultural landchen, agriculture and biogas production), the city of Braunschweig enjoys model status nationwide in terms of sustainable (waste) water management. Against the background of future requirements, the existing infrastructure and the special Braunschweig model, a study was carried outwhich is developing a future strategy for the design of the Steinhof sewage treatment plant.
