Description:
The city of Lahnstein intends the comprehensive redesign of the Rhine bank in Niederlahnstein on a distance of 1.7 km between Stolzenfelsstrasse and the district border with Koblenz. The goal is a sustainable, natural and functional redesign of the Rhine foreland with special consideration the local recreation, ecological requirements and a design high -quality free area. The measure includes in particular the barrier-free and continuous reorganization of the walking and cycle path in close integration with existing uses by pedestrians, bicycle traffic, supply vehicles. The Existing walnut tree avenue is integrated, preserved and secured as a-defining nature and cultural asset. Historical background to the Walnussbaumallee: The Walnussallee in Niederlahnstein along the Rhine promenade has a long and important story. It extends over about 1 to 1.5 kilometers and consists almost exclusively of walnut trees, some of which are more than 100 years old. In the past, this avenue was not only an idyllic walk, but also a place where the residents of Niederlahnstein could buy trees to harvest and sell the nuts. This tradition shaped the city's social life and was an important part of the local economy. Today the avenue is a protected cultural asset and a popular place for walks with a wonderful view of the Stolzenfels Castle. The care and maintenance of the trees are poor............
