This award is intended to award a service concession on the property at Steubenstrasse 5 in the free port area in Bremerhaven.
The Bremen ports, which consist of the two locations Bremen and Bremerhaven, are the second largest German seaport and are currently being used. of more than 5.500 Merchant ships called annually (2024). Around 62 million t (2024) are handled in the Bremen ports every year, of which around 51 million t, or around 83%, go through Bremerhaven alone. Bremerhaven's main handling segments include around 4.4 million TEU (2024) containers and around 1.25 million CEU (2024) Vehicles, but also general cargo. Bremerhaven is also a cruise ship location and the location of important shipyards and food processing companies as well as scientific institutions.
Bremerhaven can be reached directly from the North Sea via a short passage on the Outer Weser. The property is located is located directly on the right bank of the Weser on the so-called Columbus Island, a port area of around 40 hectares that is completely surrounded by water. This concession is intended to establish a service concession on the property at Steubenstrasse 5 for the next 20 years (January 1, 2026 - December 31, 2045) and available as an option for a further 10 years.
