- As a transmission system operator in Germany, TenneT Germany operates critical infrastructures that ensure access to a reliable, sustainable and affordable electricity supply. TenneT Germany is one of the largest investors in power grids Germany and operates Germany's largest transmission network, which stretches over 14,000 km and connects more than a third of the EU's total offshore wind capacity. TenneT is planning to build one of the first in the communities of Agethorst and Mehlbek Electricity hubs (also called multi-terminal hubs) in Germany: the NordHub. The project was confirmed in the network development plan 2037/2045 and is part of the overall NordOstLink measure. The entire project, including the NordHub, has been in progress since 2022 Federal needs plan included and was expanded with an amendment to the law in 2024. This means that TenneT has the legal mandate for planning and structural implementation. In the future, offshore and onshore as well as direct and alternating current lines will be connected in the NordHub linked. TenneT will thus feed more electricity from offshore wind farms into the power grid and transport it to the high-consumption south - up to 4 gigawatts from 2034.
