• Procurement of a confocal microscope system The subject of the order is the delivery of a confocal microscope system for use in the high-security laboratory (S4) of the ZBS5. As part of the RKI's legal mandate, ZBS5 takes on central tasks for research into high-risk human pathogens, including detailed analyzes of infection mechanisms, pathophysiology and virulence. For this purpose, the field is increasingly relying on complex, stem cell-derived 3D organoid cultures Organ-on-a-chip models that are similar to human tissue architecture, making them an indispensable tool for precise and translationally relevant infection studies. These highly sensitive 3D models pose exceptional requirements to imaging systems, especially with regard to lighting, imaging depth, working distance, as well as ensuring constant environmental conditions for long-term examinations. Another specific requirement is the long-term operation of the microscope a high-security laboratory that is operated under conditions of protection level 4 (according to the Biological Substances Ordinance). This requires, among other things, fumigation suitability and a maintenance concept that includes maintenance and repairs by the users. Confocals Microscope systems generally do not meet these requirements.
