  • The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR for short) is the geoscientific competence center and the federal geological service. Your core topics are energy raw materials, mineral raw materials, groundwater, soil and the subsoil Storage and utility room. Its mission is to use research and advice to help maintain or improve living conditions through the responsible use of geopotential. Department 3.3 is part of Department 3 (underground storage and economic area) and deals, among other things, with rock-physical and geomechanical investigations of potential host rocks (rock salt, clay rock and crystalline rock) in connection with the selection of locations for a final repository for highly radioactive waste. For this purpose, the department has a laboratory with a variety of rock testing machines. Since the tests carried out must meet the highest quality standards, the laboratory complies with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018-03 accredited.
