Description:
In the risk assessment of genetically modified organisms (GMO), effects on non-target organisms are often examined using ecotoxicoloig tests. What species should be tested in detail is not set for GMO. The environment in which the GMO is to be released plays an important role. In addition to the importance of the test organisms for affected ecosystems, representative organisms are to be tested that are related to important protection destinations such as ecosystem services or biodiversity. While protection goals of agriculture (e.g. protection of natural antagonists of pests) are well covered by existing test organisms, deputy organisms are missing that have a more direct reference to biodiversity.
In order to close this gap, a concept for testing ants from 2020 to 2024, which can take important functions in many ecosystems and can have a positive impact on biodiversity in many ecosystems.
