• In order to illustrate the possible effects of a digitally and intelligently networked area network with the participation of manufacturing companies and to identify challenges for broad implementation in practice, the Competence Center writes Energy efficiency through digitalization (KEDi), a project of the German Energy Agency GmbH (dena), is implementing a corresponding practical project. The central elements of the practical project are a business park with manufacturing companies and already existing renewable self-generation systems and storage systems that are already connected to each other via a system of power lines; ideally, an area network already exists and many of the manufacturing companies' systems have already been digitized. Building on this, a software-based, data-driven energy management system (EMS) for the intelligently networked area network will now be installed and tested as part of the practical project.
