- The city of Landau in der Pfalz, in collaboration with EnergieSüdwest AG, is pursuing an ambitious plan to convert its heat supply to renewable energies, in particular by expanding district heating based on deep geothermal energy. The aim is to to cover the entire heating needs of the city and its urban villages in a climate-neutral manner and at fair prices by 2045. A central element of this plan is the use of deep geothermal energy. The available geothermal energy is considered sufficient to cover all of Landau's heating needs. From 2028, a central heat supply from deep geothermal energy will be available in the new Messegelände-Südost commercial area (D12), which will gradually be expanded to the entire district. The implementation These measures require the gradual construction of a new district heating network. Around 6 to 8 kilometers of district heating pipes can be laid every year in order not to impair traffic flow. Meanwhile, some urban villages will initially supplied decentrally until they can be connected to the district heating network in the long term. The city of Landau and EnergieSüdwest AG are committed to making the heat supply climate-neutral. Through these comprehensive measures, Landau aims to achieve a sustainable and future-proof heat supply that offers both ecological and economic benefits for citizens.
