- Sea traffic contributes to the global greenhouse gas emissions and thus to climate change. At national, European and international level, various measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are therefore intensively discussed.
The "Fit for 55 - Package" presented as part of the European Green deal with its fuel -related legislative project, the Fuel EU Maritime (Feum), aims at reducing the greenhouse gas intensity of the fuel or energy used in sea traffic. It is becoming apparent that - in the current design of the Feum, the broad use of biofuels and LNG (liquefied natural gas) as cost -effective variants will make a significant contribution to achieving the limit values of the greenhouse gas intensity.
