DESCRIPTION: Due to the electrification concept of numerous railways in Baden-Württemberg, no new vehicles with diesel drive should be procured. Nevertheless, there is a need to use new vehicles with alternative drives on non-electrified stirling.
It is currently open whether the use of electrical trains with overhead line electrification, the use of hydrogen hybrid (H2MU), of Oberleitungs / Battery hybrid trains (BEMU) or by diesel hybrid trains is economically viable. Depending on the option, specific additional infrastructure measures are required at the routes.
Against this background, in this study, insights into the technical feasibility and cost-effectiveness of measures to achieve a locally emission-free SPNV on non-electrified routes will be developed.
