  • The project illuminates nature conservation philosophical and ethical perspectives on the internationally controversial application scenarios of genetic engineering for wildliving organisms outside of agricultural ecosystems. Such application scenarios are becoming increasingly developed as part of technical transitions and research in the field of synthetic biology. The research partly aims to distribute GMOs in nature and to establish permanently. Due to the greater propagation outside of agricultural ecosystems and beyond cultured plants, it is touched for possible releases in increasing nature conservation in central questions. In addition to questions about environmental risk assessment, monitoring and risk management, for nature conservation also ask questions about potential social implications, implications for concepts and practice of nature conservation, and moral legitimacy. Nature conservation must judge on this broad basis whether or under what conditions genetic engineering changes to wildlife organisms can be compatible with the overall objectives of nature conservation.
