Feasibility study on the ESA/M8 mission proposal "Theon" with a focus on the feasibility of the UV-vis-exoplanet mission and the development of a requirement and mission profile
The European Space Agency ("ESA") has "Voyage 2050" on March 19, 2025 as part of its decades of decades called up to submit suggestions for a space research mission of class M (Medium Size). The LMU wants to submit such a proposal. Thematically, a large space telescope with special optical parts and three spectographers should be proposed ("Theon"). Its feasibility must be theoretically examined in a feasibility study in English. As the basis of the feasibility study, the existing analysis of a specific telescope (Hypatia: a strongly light-weighted 4 m aperture Nah-Infrarot Telescope) with special elements (Stoic: A parallel on Fraunhofer IOF developed, space -compatible wave front -corrected element). The feasibility study adapts to Theon's application. The feasibility study has two primary study goals: - parameters of the telescope, as well as its feasibility with regard to the start mass, Start loads and manufacturability (see chapter 5.2.2.1 of the tendering document) - mission profile and estimates for fuel and lifespan of the flight systems and the scientific systems (see chapter 5.2.3 of the award document) The feasibility study also has a secondary one ...
