Description:
I. Overview: As space infrastructure touches almost every aspect of our daily lives, from navigation to communication to military capabilities, securing our infrastructure in space is vital. The vulnerability of space-based systems and the dependence on these systems require the development of additional capabilities. Responsive space capabilities provide the means to protect, repair, upgrade and replace important satellites in a matter of days. A mobile air-launch system can be deployed from a myriad of existing airports regardless of current system deployment locations and mobilized to rapidly launch a constellation of new satellites. DLR-s Responsive Space Cluster Competence Center (RSC³) has the intention to conduct an Air-Launch over the North Sea after taking off from a northern German airport in 2024, latest 2025. Several satellites with military and experimental payloads are intended to be launched into a Polar Low-Earth Orbit. It is planned to procure the launch capability from any commercial provider with the Launch services itself, including the carrier aircraft and the rocket. II.
