  • Despite their regional seclusion, polar areas are threatened by chemical loads. In the 1970s it became known that chemicals with certain fabric properties are not only distributed worldwide in different ways, but in particular condensation in the polar areas. Since then, these fabrics have been accumulating, they are very durable and not retrievable. Environmental data is the basis for observing and evaluating the state of the environment. Systematic environmental observation is required to describe environmental changes and to research their causes. Environmental sample banks are the nodes of the environmental observation programs because they complement spatial descriptions with trend considerations.
    In this project, approaches to systematic recording data and information on the pollution and its effects on the polar environment are to be developed. The aim is to develop a comprehensive concept for long-term pollutant monitoring in order to derive knowledge-based measures to protect the polar environment.
