Refoplan: "Changes in the oceans as CO2 -Senke in the climate system, the role of polar areas and evaluation of potential tilting points - Part 1 (focus arctic)"
In Arctic and Antarctic, the effects of climate change are particularly visible and are extremely relevant about various feedback mechanisms in the global climate system. The polar oceans are a central element of the climate system and the carbon cycle due to storage capacity and thermal inertia.
The overarching goal of this project is the analysis of tilting points of the earth's climate system, which are primarily located in the polar areas. The question should be investigated which feedback effects and cascadic changes could result in these tilting points in the ocean, but also in the agricultural-sea transition area. In addition, accounting of greenhouse gas sources and lowering for the Arctic is to be created.
All results of the scientific analyzes of the project are to be prepared in accordance with addressees. The information papers to be created should be the current data situation and a scientifically sound forecast of developments for the next few decades for the polar area ...
