• REFOPLAN 2026: “Water protection-compatible design of energetic interventions of aquatic thermal systems in surface waters - environmental, technical and practical implementation basics (Aqua-Tec)” In the course of the transformation of heat supply With greenhouse gas-neutral solutions, the use of environmental heat from surface water is becoming increasingly important. In order to develop the potential of this technology in an environmentally friendly way, an in-depth analysis of environmental and environmental aspects is required technological, legal and approval-related framework conditions. In view of the dynamic developments, there are already fundamental, but in some cases still ongoing, discussions with potential, system technology and approvals. The latter is the The publication “Fundamentals and guidelines for the ecologically compatible use of water for heat generation (LAWA - LFP 2023, Project O 5.23”), which is still being coordinated. There is still a lack of in-depth experience and connections between the Investigations undertaken from different perspectives. Experience from an ecological, technical and approval perspective, including multiple use of existing or already approved systems (e.g. hydropower plants or cooling water discharges), should be recorded and analyzed with the aim of prioritizing environmentally friendly solution options and evaluating potential limitations. A key point is that the technical aspects not yet taken into account in the above-mentioned LAWA guidelines.
