• Description:
• ReFoPlan: “Current findings on the effects of environmental noise” The project is intended to expand knowledge about the effects of environmental noise, including noise sources, beyond the sources explicitly mentioned in the Environmental Noise Directive consolidate. The research project aims to update the state of knowledge from 2018 regarding the effects of environmental noise, current developments such as the inclusion of additional health endpoints and other non-traffic noise sources of environmental noise (such as system noise, construction noise, neighborhood noise, etc.) are considered. In addition, the methodological approaches of the exposure-response functions (EWF) of the 2018 WHO guidelines will be reviewed and compared with newer statistical approaches. At the same time, the well-known methodological approaches for assessing short-term noise events (so-called peak level criteria) should be checked and compared. The advantages and disadvantages of the different methods should be highlighted and evaluated. In addition, the current case law on the terms nuisance, significant nuisance and health hazard should be viewed in the light of current findings from noise impact research. Research gaps raised are addressed with a sleep study and examined in a survey.
