Changes to the carbon economy are accompanied by the transformation to greenhouse gas neutrality. Carbon will be fossil, biogenic and atmospheric origin. Carbon is more recycled and used several times (carbon capture and utilization, CCU). For the chemical industry in order to make the oil and natural gas-based economy, greenhouse gas-neutral, power-based synthetic hydrocarbons are required (Power to Gas/Liquid/Solid). In the same way, carbon-containing energy sources (e-fuel) are required for some traffic applications, such as air traffic. For the achievement of greenhouse gas neutrality, in addition to ambitious climate protection by avoiding the development of greenhouse gases, compensation and handling of residual emissions is necessary. Natural and technical lowering are opportunities for storing carbon. Ultimately, net negative emissions are sought in the long term.
