Refo-Plan 2024: "Beyond Life Apex - Systematic use of monitoring data in chemical management on contamination and accumulation of substances in top predators"
The goals of the project are to improve the eco-exposome (including chemical mixtures) of the aquatic and terrestrial food chainens and ecosystems and to develop effect-based methods that can be used to identify, prioritize and ultimately regulate substances in need of regulation under REACH (and other substance enforcement). The focus of the project is on the genericers of "real-life" pollutant monitoring data in biota, especially top predators. The second focus is on the application and development of methods for effect assessment in top predators (mammals and birds). In addition, the assessment approach should be used to interpret tissue concentrationsof chemicals in the context of toxicity assessment and mixture assessment in order to advance the future use of biomonitoring data in regulation. The results and concepts developed in the project will be presented at an international workshop with wto be discussed by a scientific and official audience in collaboration with the UBA. The project consists of 6 work packages. WP 1 is to conduct a literature search on the interpretation of tissue concentrations in mammals and birds. In AP 2, organisms should be differentr aquatic and terrestrial food chains (e.g. agricultural landscape, forest, city, small bodies of water, flowing water, stagnant water and sea) and trophic levels are sampled. The samples should be examined for the occurrence of substances and their co-exploration using suspect screening and broad target approachesposition should be examined. In addition, stable isotope analyzes and, if necessary, telemetry-supported methods should be used to compare the load spatially and temporally with the feeding behavior of the subjects...
