• Description:
• The anthropogenic intensification of climate change is increasingly shaping extreme weather events in Germany. In recent years it has already become clear to what extent such events can reach and the economic damage they cause. Information about damage from extreme weather events forms an important basis for strategically and effectively dealing with the consequences of climate change. A study commissioned by the BMWK and the BMUV estimates the damage caused by extreme events Weather events in Germany since 2000 amount to at least 145 billion euros. The new Climate Adaptation Act (Section 4 Paragraph 3) provides, among other things, a legal mandate to regularly collect data on damage caused by weather extremes. Similar Requirements also arise internationally via the Sendai Framework and climate reporting under the EU and the Climate Change Framework Convention. A study commissioned by the Federal Environment Agency has made recommendations for the systematic recording of extreme weather-related damage Given to Germany and estimated as typical for three events.
