Description:
Since the introduction of the Climate Protection Act in 2021, there have been clear climate protection goals for all areas of life with the overarching goal of climate neutrality by 2045. Germany's moors will make an important contribution to climate neutrality. By rewetting these areasGreenhouse gas emissions caused by the drainage of the peatlands can be saved. In order to implement the 2050 climate protection plan in Germany, moors must also be managed wetly in the long term. This is the goal of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture(BMEL) funded 10-year project: "Management and biomass utilization of wet fens: Network of model and demonstration projects in moor regions of Brandenburg", "WetNetBB" for short. The State Office for the Environment (LfU) is a network partner for the state of Brandenburg alongside the German GeoForschungsZentrum (GFZ), the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) and the Leibniz Center for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) e. V. under the leadership of the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Research and Bioeconomy (ATB). The WetNetBB project is intended to act as a catalyst for a large-scale trformation for sustainable moorland use by taking up and combining the developments of various preparatory work on rewetting in Brandenburg, implementing moorland-preserving water levels at typical locations, and procedures for land management and biomass use, for example...
