- By 2030, the railway wants to comprehensively renovate around 40 busy high-performance corridors, including seven in Bavaria. The aim is to completely renew busy routes that are in need of renovation within the shortest possible period of time. This includes tracks and switches, signals and signal boxes, Schwaves and gravel as well as the train stations.
At the beginning of 2026, the general renovation will also start in the Free State with the Nuremberg (Reichswald)-Regensburg route, after which it will be the turn of Obertraubling-Passau. This route will have to be closed for five months. With a length of 115 kilometersObertraubling-Passau is an important part of the European Rhine-Danube traffic axis and one of the busiest routes in Bavaria. Many freight trains between Central Europe and Southeastern Europe, long-distance services between Germany and Austria and various local transport lines run on the routeke. As a result of this heavy use, there is a great need for renovation.
