- With the construction project "Wuppertal Kiesbergtunnel, replacement building" a central infrastructure project is being realized on the L 70 state road, which includes both the complete renovation of the Kiesbergtunnel and the replacement construction of the missing overpass structure via Viehhofstrasse. The L70 connects the Wuppertal-Sonnborn motorway junction (A 46) with Wuppertal Südstadt. The core component of the project is the thorough renovation of the Kiesberg tunnel, which was opened in 1970. The tunnel shows the The peculiarity of a double-story construction is that the two-lane carriageways do not run next to each other, but mostly on top of each other. In the direction of travel from the Wuppertal-Sonnborn motorway junction (A 46) in the direction of Wuppertaler Südstadt, traffic is routed through the lower tube, which has a total length of around 1,043 m (mining construction method and open construction method of the so-called "frame structures east and west"). The upper tube in the opposite direction from Wuppertal Südstadt to Wuppertal-Sonnborn motorway junction (A 46) is around 855 m long and consists entirely of a mined tunnel section. As part of the tunnel renovation under full closure, it is also planned to rebuild the missing overpass structure on the L 70 via Viehhofstrasse should be replaced with a new building.
