- The Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (abbreviated MPI CEC) is a research institution of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science. V. based in Muelheim an der Ruhr. The primary research goal is to investigate the fundamental chemical processes of energye conversion in order to contribute to the development of new and powerful catalysts. Interdisciplinarity is a prerequisite for this goal. At the MPI CEC, the areas of heterogeneous catalysis, homogeneous catalysis and biophysical chemistry in interaction are currently being intensively studiedcombined with the most modern experimental and theoretical analysis methods.
The institute currently has around 300 employees. However, it is in a development phase in which the number of employees is being increased in all areas. In particular, the scientific areasche expanded.
A new director was appointed to the MPI CEC on December 1st, 2023. He will head the new "Electrosynthesis" department, which is scheduled to begin research work on March 1, 2024. The technical and scientific employees, doctoral students, diploma students, postdocs and trainees shoulden move into a laboratory floor in the new building (Building E) of the institute. The laboratory floor must be equipped with laboratory equipment according to the research tasks.
