- ENTEGA AG (“client” or “AG”) is the owner and operator of the district heating network in the Darmstadt district of Eberstadt and the thermal power plant located there, from where the households in the district heating statutory area and the few connections outside of the statutory area are supplied. Entega wastewater treatment GmbH Co KG is also the operator of the southern sewage treatment plant in Eberstadt. The aim is to transform the district heating network towards a greenhouse gas-neutral heat supply (decarbonization). AG to obtain funding from the “Federal funding for efficient heating networks (BEW)” funding program. As a first step towards decarbonization, transformation planning based on LPH 1 was carried out with funding from BEW Module I carried out by the HOAI for the district heating network. The transformation planning comes to the conclusion that the thermal use of wastewater using a heat pump system at the sewage treatment plant in Eberstadt can represent a cost-efficient and suitable option, to provide the required share of renewable energies from 2030. The estimated usable heat potential, which can be raised from the sewage water produced using heat pumps, is almost 20 GWh per year with a nominal thermal output the heat pump of approx. 3 MWth. The heat pump is to be located near the local sewage treatment plant on a piece of land that is yet to be developed. The development of the parcel as a building plot is carried out separately by the client with the property planning commissioned architect planned. The planning of the wastewater heat in this area, including the connection/integration of the heat pump into the district heating network, is planned by the (specialist) planner separately commissioned by the client to plan the system technology.
