Description : Due to the urgent need to accelerate the energy transition and speed-up the integration of offshore wind to the transmission system in unprecedented amounts, the 4 German TSOs (transmission system operators) are committed and eager to develop and apply 525kV Bipole HVDC Multiterminal as next generation of HVDC technology, which allows the flexible inter-connection of multiple HVDC lines, so-called DC-Hub projects. The first applications of these Hubs shall be in Heide (Schlesweig-Holstein) and Nord-West (near Rastede in Lower-Saxony) as cooperation projects of TenneT and 50Hertz respective Amprion.To do so, new HVDC technology is required. DC-Hub projects are considered the most viable pathway to establish seeding-points for a future interconnected and meshed DC grid architecture to facilitate the widespread integration of offshore wind. The step-by-step DC grid development requires modular HVDC building blocks which are compatible and interoperable by design in a Multiterminal (MT) and on the long run Multivendor (MV) context.Recent planning shows significant advantages of interconnection of at least four HVDC Converter Stations into a DC-Hub.
