• With its "Strong Rail" umbrella strategy, DB AG is creating the necessary conditions for more rail traffic. In this context, an expansion of the vehicle fleets is also planned, which will result in an increasing need for capacity in the maintenance workshops.
  In the framen this expansion of fleets and plants, DB Fernverkehr AG is investing around EUR 2.3 billion in expanding its own infrastructure by 2031. The largest and most important project in terms of the fleet strategy is the construction of a new ICE factory for operational maintenance in Dortmund-Hafen on the site of the disused freight station on Westfaliastrasse. The transfer of ownership of the property from DB InfraGO (formerly DB Netz AG) to DB Fernverkehr AG is currently being carried out. The currently unused area is approximately 2,000 m long with a maximum widthe of up to 160 m. It is located on the railway line 2650 (Dortmund - Hamm) and the railway line 2210 (Castrop-Rauxel Sued - Dortmund) in the middle of a commercial and industrial area. The suitability as a factory location was checked and ensured as part of a feasibility study.
