Description:
The city of Schorndorf with around 41,400 inhabitants (as of 11/2023) is located in the Rems-Murr district in Baden-Wuerttemberg. As a residential and labor location, Schorndorf has great popularity and is found in a landscape in an idyllic embedded in the Remstal. The well -preserved old town with Medieval half -timbered buildings form the center of the core city. Numerous service, retail and community needs are located in the core city. In order to maintain the educational and leisure offer at a high level and to present it in an attractive environment The city of Schorndorf has been building the library since November 2016. The new library will be located between Archivstrasse and Spitalhof in the future. The former dairy of the Schorndorf hospital will be renovated and converted for library use and by an extension in the south supplemented. After the competitive procedure carried out, the new library is currently under construction. The construction work should be completed at the end of 2026/ early 2027 and will receive a high -quality environment as the new city module. The overarching goal of the competition process is strengthening the southwestern old town and the creation of a high quality of stay. With the redesign of the Spitalhof, an adequate and attractive environment for the new library is to be created. At the same time, there is the possibility of the functional reorganization of the Archivstrasse and Johann-Philipp-Palm-Strasse. An ecological and climate -adapted upgrade of all public spaces should take place. The subject of the implementation competition is the preliminary planning of the public open spaces and streets in the areas: - Spitalhof and at the Bruennele, - Archivstrasse, - Johann-Philipp-Palm-Strasse, total around 6,214 m2.
