The state government aims to make North Rhine-Westphalia the technology leader for quantum technologies. The starting conditions are ideal: North Rhine-Westphalia not only features a high density of universities and non-university research institutions researching quantum technologiesments, but as a leading industrial country it also has numerous potential large-scale users of this key technology in industry as well as specialized start-ups that develop e.g. hardware or software especially for quantum computers. Another strength of North Rhine-Westphalia is thattechnology openness. Example of quantum computing: Whether ion traps, photonics, superconductivity or semiconductor-based approaches - North Rhine-Westphalia covers the most promising technological approaches with outstanding scientific performance. The newly established competence in April 2022The "EIN Quantum NRW" research center (E = Education, I = Innovation, N = Networking) brings together strong business and science locations. The aim is to create new synergies for mutual benefit in order to continue the "Made in NRW" ecosystem along the entire value chain in a technology-open mannerdevelop and thus secure the technological sovereignty of North Rhine-Westphalia in quantum technologies.
