- What is required is an optoacoustic imaging device that measures in the mesoscopic range and records the examination area with raster scans (raster-scan optoacoustic mesoscopy - RSOM). RSOM illuminates tissue over an area of skin with unfocused nanosecond photon pulses and excites ultrasoundl waves in the tissue due to thermoelastic expansion, i.e. H. a tiny volumetric expansion of the tissue due to the absorption of light and the subsequent tiny increase in temperature (in the milli-Celsius range). The ultrasound waves are then generated by scanning a focused UltrascHall detector recorded at several positions on the skin surface. Tomographic inversion then produces three-dimensional (3D) images. Illumination with temporal interleaving of wavelengths results in the generation of static 3D images from 5 x 5 mm scans at multiple (3-4) wavelengthsi
