- Planning for a long-term heat storage as an earth pool heat storage system Stadtwerke Rostock AG is inviting tenders for the planning of the construction of a long-term heat storage facility (LZS) as an underground heat storage system (pit thermal energy storage, PTES). The attachment is classified as an engineering structure by the Rostock municipal utility company and includes the earth basin heat storage including cover as well as the pump house with post-heating. The planning service should include service phases 1 to 8, subject to the following: Feasibility or economic feasibility are triggered. In parallel to the planning work, comprehensive investigations of the subsoil are currently being carried out and the results are expected in quarter 3 of 2026. Based on this, the check is carried out and decided whether the “long-term heat storage” project or the planning should be continued. Short description of the system: The system serves to shift unused heat or heat potential, which is particularly available in summer, into the Heating period to cover peak heat requirements. The long-term heat storage is charged with heat indirectly through the district heating network, separated by heat exchangers. For this purpose, a pump house with the appropriate heat exchanger should be built.
