Description:
The Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV) is carrying out the “Grosser Goldgrund connection” project under the sponsorship of the WSA Upper Rhine. The project includes the connection of an oxbow river to the Rhine in order to achieve ecological functionalities such as To promote the natural dynamics of rivers and floodplains to promote natural riparian vegetation, regenerate habitats for plants and animals and increase ecological diversity. The project serves to achieve the goals of EU Water Cream Directive and should also be stockpiled as compensation measures. The oxbow river is currently only connected to the Rhine downstream on one side and is therefore only flowed through during floods.
