Description: The old Shell keg filling plant on the Monheim Rhine promenade is being converted into a multifunctional event hall with the name Kulturraffinerie K714. The historic building should keep its industrial charm while the latest stage technology moves in - and a restaurant with a view of the Rhine. The architectural concept for the K714 cultural refinery intends to preserve the listed facade of the former bottling hall with its characteristic red bricks. A significantly higher, rectangular body made of glass blocks is inserted into the interior of the building, which is supposed to glow in the evening hours and reflect the sunlight during the day. This new, modern building is surrounded by wide walkways and incorporates the old structure on the sides in a variable manner. In this way, a “Great Hall” is created in the historic hall ensemble. The renovation work has already started.
