- The decline in biodiversity in agricultural landscapes is one of the greatest challenges of today. The joint EU agricultural policy (GAP) offers important instruments to counteract this decline such as the agricultural environmental measures. The experiences of recent years have shown that partly lacking suitable measures, partly in a qualified implementation to the necessary extent in cooperation with the farmers. It is also obvious that courses in agricultural sciences and ecology (biology, environmental sciences, etc.) convey the relevant practical knowledge and methods of the two subject areas that are necessary for successful cooperation between agriculture and nature conservation.
As a first step in the direction of a qualification standard for biodiversity counseling, the International Nature Conservation Academy island Vilm of the Federal Office for Nature Conservation offers the university course "Agricultural Management and Biodiversity".
