Description:
The city of Kleve will be a host of the State Garden Show in 2029. Since the area of the garden show is in the immediate vicinity of the city center and pedestrian zone, this offers the opportunity to also redesign the pedestrian zone. This was established in the 1980s and since thenno longer comprehensively modernized, so that it no longer meets today's requirements in many ways. The competition area with a total area of around 19,300 m2 extends from the "Minoritenstrasse/Herzogstrasse" in the north in the southwestern direction over a section of the "Herzogstrasseas well as the "big street" up to the "fish market" with the "Elsa fountain". There is already a planning for the "Place on the Duke Bridge" area, which should be taken into account in this planning competition. In the east, the "Gasthausstrasse" connects to the competition area, in the northwest"Kavarinerstrasse". In addition, the area in the southwest includes sub-areas of the "Stechbahn", "Hagsche Strasse" and "Schlossstrasse" and the Dr.-Heinz-Will-Platz. The redesign create an attractive city center that is appealing for both the residents of Kleves and for visitors.The typical character of the Lower Rhine Central City should be preserved. In addition to many day guests from the Netherlands, the university also includes students an important target group. In addition, Kleve, as a middle center, fulfills an important supply function for the surrounding communities.Therefore, public spaces are to be created that meet the needs of these different user groups.
