In 2019, the city of Heide was included in the "Social City" federal-state program with the "Heide Sued" investigation area. As part of this program, the preparatory studies and the integrated urban development concept (ISEK) were developed for the area and in the year 2022 completed.

On April 26, 2023, the council meeting of the city of Heide has the decision on the statutes about the formal implementation of a Renovation procedure in accordance with § 142 Building Code (BauGB). This decision forms the basis for the gradual implementation of the measures of the integrated urban development concept.
