Description:
The Altona town hall on the Republic Square in Hamburg-Altona is a listed service building. Since 1898 it has been the town hall of the city of Altona, which is independent until 1938. The building was originally the station building of the Altona-Kieler Eisenbahngesellschaft.
The former station reception buildingwas rebuilt and expanded by the Altona city building inspector Emil Brandt. The architecture of the four -wing complex influences the Italian Renaissance. Inside, in particular, the colleges for the city council (1st floor in the north wing) and aDuty apartment for the mayor (east wing).
Since the end of the Second World War, the town hall has been home to the district office. The college hall is used in particular for plenary sessions from the Altona district assembly. In the south wing (the station building from 1844) this is locatedThe registry office, it is a popular place for marriages due to the long-term building and its location above the Elbe.
The building is located at the Republic of 1 in 22765 Hamburg-Altona.
