Description:
The Altona town hall on the Republic Square in Hamburg-Altona is a listed service building. Since 1898 it has been the town hall of the city of Altona, which is independent until 1938. The building was originally the station building of the Altona-Kiel railway company.
The former station reception building was rebuilt and expanded by the Altona city building inspector Emil Brandt. The architecture of the four -wing complex influences the Italian Renaissance. Inside, in particular, the colleges for the city council (1st floor in the north wing) and a Division created for the mayor (east wing).
The college hall is used in particular for plenary sessions from the Altona district assembly. In the south wing (the station building from 1844) this is located Civil registry office, it is a popular place for marriages due to the considerable building and its location above the Elbe.
In the south is the busy Palmaille and the Kloppstockstrasse. The Max-Brauer-Allee, which is also much-made to the east runs, the Betty Levy Passage to be used for deliveries.
