- Liquid helium is of central importance for daily research at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research (MPI-FKF) in Stuttgart. For this purpose, the institute operates a complex infrastructure for recovery, cleaning, storage and liquefaction of helium gas, as well as the storage and output of reliquefied helium (LHe). In recent years, the institute has produced up to 400,000 liters of LHe per year. To achieve this rate, highly reliable operation is required Condenser systems necessary. In order to be able to guarantee the availability of LHe in the future, central parts of the infrastructure for helium recovery and liquefaction should now be replaced or renewed. The process is divided into: the following 4 stages: 1. The condenser TCF50 "Stuttgart87" built in 1987 with a liquefaction capacity of 60 l/h is to be replaced by a new condenser with a condensation capacity of at least 64 l/h. The internal cleaner level must The level measurement of the collection and blow-out container is done using differential pressure measurement. A cold ejector must be provided. The existing ESD441 compressor will be retained. 2. The condenser TCF50 "Stuttgart 05" built in 2005 is undergoing a general overhaul subjected. The existing DSD281 compressor will be renewed. 3. The 2000 liter He tank built in 1975 is replaced by a 5000 liter He tank replaced. 4. The control for helium recovery is renewed.
