Vattenfall Wasserkraft GmbH (VWK) operates the Hohenwarte II pumping storage power plant (PSW Hoh II) at the upper reaches of the Saale in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district. In the period 1963 - 1966, eight pump storage rates (PSS) have been put into operation that have the following technical data: nominal output Motorgenerator 50 MVA nominal output Turbine operation 40 MW nominal power Pump operation 42 MW nominal voltage 10.5 kV nominal speed 428.6 min -1 through speed 700 min-1 mass rotating part 135 t (motorgenerator) + 34 t (turbine) + 28 t (memory pump) Fruge torque 860 TM² outer diameter brake railway 2,850 mm wide brake track 300 mm below the generator stand is the lower support star. On the arms of this support there are four oil -hydraulically operated, simply acting brake cylinders with piston retreat springs. The mechanical braking takes place by pressing brake pads to the brake path at the generator runner. This mechanical brake device is used to shorten the run -out phase of the rotating part of the PSS.
