Description: The Kriegenbrunn sluice at waterway kilometer 48.66 of the Main-Danube Canal needs to be renewed. The new lock will be built right next to the old lock while shipping is still in operation, because this is the only way to keep the waterway connection from the North Sea to the Black Sea navigable during construction. With the lock project, the federal government is investing in the future of the waterway as a mode of transport.
A plan approval procedure including an environmental impact assessment (EIA) was carried out for approval for the new construction of the Kriegenbrunn lock. The planning approval decision became legally binding at the end of 2018.
The entire construction project is to be implemented by a general contractor.
