Description:
Automated driving in the railway operation harbors great potential, for example with regard to increasing capacity. Technical systems have to take on tasks that the driver currently performs. With higher automation degrees, this also includes checking for any objects in the track area and in the area as well as the classification of defined types of objects. Different sensors collect data from the environment, which are then checked for any relevant objects using algorithms of artificial intelligence (AI). Since the potential input data of the sensors are subject to such AI applications of a large variance, the algorithms are expected to be developed to a significant part using the process of machine learning (ML) using training and validation data. However, the AI data sets required for this are hardly openly available, which significantly limits the development of the algorithms.
